On October 12, 2026, Beijing GOBROAD Hospital held the inauguration ceremony of its Neuro-Oncology Comprehensive Diagnosis & Treatment Center. Led by Prof. Li Wenbin, the center brings together the hospital's clinical and research strength in neuro-oncology, drawing on GOBROAD Medical Group's resources in comprehensive oncology care, innovative-drug clinical research, and multidisciplinary collaboration. It is dedicated to advancing precision diagnosis and treatment and clinical-research innovation in neuro-oncology, and to providing patients with more professional, systematic care.
Facing the Challenges of Neuro-Oncology, Innovation Matters
Neuro-oncology is one of the fields where clinical challenges are most pronounced and the need for innovative therapies is most urgent. Its tumours are characterised by atypical early symptoms, complex diagnosis, high malignancy in some subtypes, difficult treatment, and a high risk of recurrence. Because these tumours arise in functionally critical areas of the nervous system, treatment must not only control disease progression but also preserve patients' motor, language, and cognitive functions as far as possible.
At the same time, drug development and clinical research in neuro-oncology face many obstacles. Factors such as tumour molecular heterogeneity and the blood–brain barrier have long left some malignant neuro-oncological tumours without effective treatment options. For patients with relapsed or refractory disease, the choices after standard therapy can be extremely limited.
For this reason, every diagnostic advance, every exploration of a new drug, and every breakthrough in clinical research in neuro-oncology can bring new hope to patients. The significance of innovation lies not only in pursuing longer survival, but also in helping patients preserve neurological function and improve quality of life.
Building a Comprehensive Care Platform
The Neuro-Oncology Comprehensive Care Center at Beijing GOBROAD Hospital was established to integrate multidisciplinary expertise and build a collaborative system spanning precision diagnosis, comprehensive treatment, innovative-drug clinical research, and long-term follow-up management.
The center's scope covers glioma, meningioma, intracranial germ cell tumours, medulloblastoma, brain metastases, and other nervous-system tumours. It focuses on patients with complex disease, those who need further treatment after surgery, and those with relapsed or refractory disease or limited options after multiple lines of therapy.
Future Directions
The center will focus on the following directions:
- Precision diagnosis and molecular subtyping. Integrating neuroimaging, pathology, and molecular testing to accurately identify tumour type and disease characteristics, providing the basis for individualised treatment plans. For patients with disease progression or recurrence, re-evaluate the disease status in light of new clinical information and look for possible treatment directions.
- Multidisciplinary comprehensive treatment. Strengthening collaboration among neurosurgery, neuro-oncology internal medicine, radiotherapy, imaging, and pathology, comprehensively assessing surgery, radiotherapy, and systemic therapy based on each patient's disease characteristics, prior treatment, and physical condition, while protecting neurological function and quality of life.
- Innovative drugs and clinical research. Actively following new-drug development and frontier therapies in neuro-oncology, advancing clinical-research collaboration and exploration of innovative treatments, and evaluating eligible patients for participation in relevant clinical trials.
- Whole-course management and patient services. Addressing patients' needs across first diagnosis, treatment decisions, recurrence assessment, rehabilitation, and long-term follow-up, and strengthening the integration of diagnostic information, treatment continuity, and sustained management.
International Collaboration for Overseas Patients
On the international front, the center has reached multicentre collaboration agreements with institutions in Russia, Central Asia, and other regions, and has established capabilities for international remote consultation and cross-border medical-record review. It can provide professional disease assessment and multidisciplinary diagnosis and treatment for overseas patients with relapsed or refractory neuro-oncology, helping them and their families understand suitable treatment options and connecting them with follow-up care as needed.
Pooling Expertise to Lay the Foundation for Innovative Care
The complexity of neuro-oncology diagnosis, treatment, and research means the field's development requires teams with extensive clinical experience, sustained research capability, and a foundation in multidisciplinary collaboration.
The center is led by Prof. Li Wenbin. A chief physician and PhD supervisor with nearly 40 years of clinical and research experience, Prof. Li has long been devoted to the comprehensive treatment of neuro-oncology. Team members have rich clinical experience in neuro-oncology and have conducted research in tumour molecular diagnostics and immunotherapy at institutions including the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, the University of South Florida College of Medicine, and the Moffitt Cancer Center.
According to the team's prior research record, its experts have led more than 50 domestic and international multicentre drug clinical trials, participated in the work of GBM AGILE — the international multicentre platform trial in glioblastoma — published over 150 academic papers, and reported research findings at international conferences including ASCO and ESMO.
These clinical and research accumulations provide a professional foundation for the center's management of complex cases, innovative-drug research, and domestic and international academic collaboration.
Patient-Centred: Exploring More Treatment Possibilities
For neuro-oncology patients — especially those with relapsed or refractory disease and limited treatment options — gaining an accurate disease assessment, access to professional multidisciplinary evaluation, and an understanding of frontier therapeutic progress is of great significance.
Beijing GOBROAD Hospital's Neuro-Oncology Comprehensive Care Center will be patient-needs oriented, continuously strengthening multidisciplinary collaboration and integrating precision diagnosis and treatment, innovative-drug clinical research, and comprehensive medical services. At the same time, leveraging international remote consultation, cross-border medical-record review, and an international medical service system, it will further expand the channels through which domestic and overseas patients can access professional care.
For a field with complex diagnosis and treatment and an urgent need for innovative therapy, the center hopes that through sustained clinical exploration and research innovation, it can find scientific and appropriate treatment opportunities for more patients, and translate medical progress into real survival benefits and quality-of-life improvements for patients.
